Bible Study - VERTICAL: Flooded and Filled

  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced or observed his faithfulness since our last meeting?

  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or fear? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?

  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  4. Read Psalm 23:4; 139:7-12 and 1 Kings 8:10-11.  What does it mean to say God as omnipresent?  How often do you remind yourself that God is present even though you can’t sense His presence?  What does it mean to say God’s presence is manifest?  Have you ever experienced God’s manifest presence?  When?  What was it like?

  5. Read Exodus 40:34-35 and Isaiah 6:1-4.  How does God respond to the worship He receives in these two passages?  How do these passages deepen your understanding of the manifest presence of God?

  6. In Psalm 22:1-5; 19-24.  This Psalm begins with the Psalmist expressing his despair over God’s apparent absence or apathy.  Have you ever felt that God was absent or ignoring you?  What did you do? In verse 3, the Psalmist pictures God as enthroned on the praise of His people.  Chris said that when we praise and worship God in song we are pulling out a chair and offering God a place to sit.
    • Why might that be important, particularly when your circumstances are difficult?
    • What does the Psalmist say he will do in verse 22?
    • What does the Psalmist encourage others to do?  Why?

  7. Read Ephesians 5:15-20.  How do believers put themselves in position to experience a filling of the Spirit?

  8. In the next 24-48 hours, what simple next step could you take in obedience to what you’ve learned from your time in God’s Word? Who would benefit from hearing what you’ve learned this week?  Will you share it with them?
