Bible Study - ROMANS 8 GOD FOR US: From Condemned to Convinced

  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced his goodness and faithfulness?

  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?

  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  4. Read Isaiah 54:10 and 8:35-39.  Make a list of all the things Paul says in the Romans 8 passage that do not impact God’s love for us.  Have any of these things ever made you think God did not love you?  Why?

  5. Read John 3:16-17 and Romans 5:8.  When did God start loving you?  Why might it be important for you to understand when God started loving you?

  6. Paul argues in the Romans 8 passage that this laundry list of negative/difficult things are not able to separate us from God’s love.  Why is it important to know that these things do not separate us from God’s love?  Why is it important to understand that God’s loves does not prevent us from experiencing these negative/difficult things?

  7. What do you think Chris meant when he said, “His love won’t always rescue us from death, but it will enable us to transcend it.”?

  8. Read Romans 8:1.  What are the two “book ends” of this chapter?  Have you moved from “I feel condemned” to “I am convinced”?

  9. Read Psalm 13:5 and Jude 1:21.  What do you think it means to say God’s love never changes, but being convinced of it can change us?  Would you say that the longer you have been living as a follower of Christ the more convinced you’ve become of God’s love for you?

  10. Is there someone in your life who needs to hear the Good News of the Gospel? How can we join you in praying for that?
