Bible Study - FOR A LIMITED TIME: Outcomes and Your Outlook

Sermon-Based Bible Study – April 26, 2020

  1. What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for or are celebrating? How have you experienced his love and faithfulness this week?

  2. Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or fear? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?

  3. What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?

  4. Read Philippians 1:12-14. Think about Paul’s situation for a moment and take a close look at his words.
    • Which words or phrases stand out to you? What do you notice about Paul’s tone in these verses?
    • The Greek word for “advance” implies the removal of obstacles. In other words, the things that have happened to Paul have propelled the good news of Jesus forward. What does this tell you about Paul’s perspective on hardship and suffering? What does this tell you about Paul’s love for Jesus?
    • Paul’s words and living example have also given courage and boldness to other brothers and sisters. What does this tell us about the power of the Gospel?

  5. Chris noted: “Paul’s focus is not on what has happened to him but on how what has happened to him has served to advance the cause of Jesus.” Can you think of how this has played out in your own life or the life of someone close to you?

  6. Chris also stated: “We cannot control outcomes, but we can control our outlook.” How is the Spirit of God speaking to your situation at this moment?

  7. Think about something that you cannot control at the moment. What kind of outlook are you hoping for, and what would that do for you?

  8. As we continue to live out our faith in this moment, how might God be leading you to love and serve those around you? Is there somebody in your sphere that needs some encouragement or support?
