Bible Study - THE HOLY SPIRIT PPP - Still in Circulation
Sermon-Based Bible Study – December 5, 2021
- What is something God has done for you that you are thankful for, or are celebrating? How have you experienced God’s love and faithfulness this week?
- Where are you experiencing stress, anxiety or discouragement? How would you like to see God move in your life or in the life of someone close to you?
- What did you hear in this week’s sermon that was new or particularly interesting? Did anything stand out to you as puzzling or troubling?
- Read 1 Corinthians 12:3,7; and 14:26. Sometimes we struggle with knowing whether something we desire, or that feel we are being led to do, is coming from God. What do these verses suggest we might do to evaluate whether a desire, or prompting, is coming from God?
- Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7. What part of this passage stands out to you as particularly meaningful right now? Why? This definition of love is in the middle of Paul’s teaching about the purpose and role of the gifts of the Spirit. How does this discussion of love help you better understand the purpose of the gifts of the Spirit?
- Paul compares the gifts of the Spirit to parts of a body. What does it mean to think of love as the body’s circulatory system? Which is more important, the spiritual gift or the thing that motivates or animates the exercise of the spiritual gift? Why?
- Read 1 Corinthians 13:8-13. Paul says in verse “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” What do you think he means by “then?” When will “then” be? What does that suggest about when the gifts of the Spirit will cease? Why is it important for us to humbly pray for and look for the Holy Spirit’s presence to bring gifts until Jesus returns?
- Read 1 Corinthians 14:1. What is the connection between desiring the gifts of the Spirit and following the way of love? When a person is following the way of love why do they desire or earnestly seek to have a spiritual gift?
- What do you think it means to say “the Spirit is a deposit of the kingdom of heaven where we are headed” or “The Spirit is a dose of our future?”
- What is a simple, next step you could take in obedience to what the Spirit is saying to you through this time in the Word? Who would benefit, or be interested in hearing about what you’ve learned in this study?
